Hola. Me acaban de avisar que me voy en una beca de seis semanas con todo pago a EEUU. Mis hijos están contentos (por suerte) y yo ... también. Ya me están pidiendo las cosas más locas que se puedan imaginar (Patrick quiere una ficha de un casino de Las Vegas, por ejemplo).
No sé demasiado, pero por lo que me dijeron, va gente de países muy exóticos. De Uruguay ... YO. Debajo está el mail que recibí de la Embajada el pasado trece de abril. Y DESPUÉS DICEN QUE LOS MARTES TRECE SON MALA ONDA!
Ah, a quien corresponda: muy ingeniosa la tarjeta del cumple del tío Ricardo. Me enteré por Roberto Dávila y le dí una miradita. Está GENIAL.

The UIC (University of Illinois, Chicago) program is based upon the theme of "Negotiating
America, Locally, Nationally, and Globally: A
Multidisciplinary Investigation." The program examines the
United States through multiple lenses formed by the
disciplines of study that have grown up around various parts
of American culture: law, politics, art, literature,
geography, urbanism, education, sociology, and economics. The
four-week residency program is divided into three intensive
segments - one historical, one thematic, and one focused on
contemporary life - where faculty and participants study
specific examples that reveal the larger themes and ideas to
provide not just overall insight but a practical body of
useful, teachable materials that participants can bring back
to their home countries and introduce into the curriculum
with immediate and longer-term benefits. Throughout the
Institute, classroom work is divided among lectures,
discussions and small-group workshops; classroom work is
balanced by field work ranging from tours of farms
and suburbs to home visits. The study tour takes participants
to Las Vegas, the Grand Canyon, Monument Valley, Mesa Verde,
Durango, Salt Lake City, New York, Philadelphia,
Charlottesville, and Washington, D.C.
